Why Doesn't The Government Learn to Save Money?

I hope I can stimulate the economy!
Barack Obama

In an economic downfall resembling the great depression, why doesn't the United States government learn to save more money. Isn't it ironic that too many people entered into loans and payment schedules that they could not afford and now the United States economy is shot? The US economy is directly linked to the rest of the world and other nations are feeling out crunch yet we think the answer is to spend more money. How can we save the economy and where should the money really be spent?

1. Build more green cars - This one could save the car manufacturers and the earth. The more green cars available at affordable prices - the more people will buy them. Want to spur an economy and save the ecosystem? Offer a huge rebate or tax deduction when buying a green car. More people will be employed at the car manufacturers and more people will spend money on green cars.

2. Change the insurance industry - Should there not be fluctuating car insurance for people who rarely drive? I see this in other countries and it works wonders. I do not drive during the week - only on weekends but I am forced to pay the normal price for car insurance that everyone else has to pay no matter how many miles they drive. Am I not less of a risk if I am never on the road?

3. Healthcare NOW! - This is one that I think is a huge problem in the United States. If there were more affordable preventative care there would be less people out of work and on disability. The healthcare system in the United States is set up to cost more money to prevent than to heal. That is backwards and horrid.

4. Make higher education free - People deserve to be educated but cannot afford to pay for college. Again - this is a horrible choice. There should be a testing system set up where people who have the grades and the drive to have more education can get that education for free.

Will the current cuts and monies placed back into the system via the United States stimulus package help the United States? Some. But the problem is far greater than any one package. There are countries out there that are the perfect models of a community and a village that offer free health care - free education and a better democratic life. All the United States has to do is open their eyes and fight a war on their own front.

is this what they're doing? Putting money into education and healthcare?

why doesn't the govt save money? Yeah, I dunno... it seems easy for us to say, but I think the prevailing wisdom is to spend your way out of a recession...
