Meditate: It Elevates
February 2nd 2008 06:06
Ever wonder what all goes on in your mind all the time?
Give yourself a few minutes everyday. Sit down on that comfortable chair in your home when no one is there to disturb you for some time. Close your eyes. Disengage from the world. Think about what all is going on in your mind. Is it calm? It’s in a state of turmoil. It’s thinking about hundred things at the same time. It may be about you getting late for the work, problems with your spouse, difficulties your children are facing in the school, the health of your pet, the unusual noise in your car, that boy/girl in your office, the upcoming meeting, the falling revenues, the mounting tax burden, employer/employee problems etc. etc. The list is endless and there is no respite. How can one expect to calm his mind in this busy world?
Meditate.
Simply sit there and slowly disengage from the world. In real sense. Leave all your problems behind for 15 minutes. Monitor the thoughts coming into your mind. Accept them but do not get involved. Not accepting will create another conflicting situation. Non-involvement for 15 minutes will keep you fresh for the whole day. Have faith in the beginning. Just monitor the thoughts. Since you are not responsible for the thoughts coming into your mind, and if you don’t get involved, it will eventually leave and another will take its place. Again don’t get involved. Don’t worry; you are not disengaging from your responsibility or work. You are simply giving yourself a break from your own self. Aim for the ultimate, the no thought situation. Very difficult, but its bliss. Once you learn to disengage yourself from the thoughts, you learn to find a place for yourself in your own mind. Once you find place for yourself here, you want to stay longer. Its benefits are difficult to fathom at the outset, but once you get used to it, it becomes an addiction. You learn to find breaks during your work to be with yourself. You learn to accept yourself and the world around. You learn that you are not only a human. You are also part of this universe. You start relating to the creator. You also accept your place and your responsibility in creation of this world. You become one with the universe. You become the universe.
Meditate. It elevates!

For those who have not meditated before, I would suggest that you mention that focusing on the breath is the easiest way to slip into the full meditation.
Meditation is the way to clean the mind, and considering we wash the car, clean the house and wash our bodies ... itmakes sense to have to clean the mind regularly too... God knows there is enough consumerist dirt and grime to coat our thoughts ....
Great Post...
