Lower Your Heating Costs During Winter Months
With one of the worst winters in years upon us, many people are wondering how they are going to make it through this winter without breaking their wallets. Winter can be very expensive and with the economy still in a decline, saving money is more important than ever. So how do you cut costs without cutting comfort this winter? Here are six ideas to help controls the costs and keep money in your bank account.
1. Turn down the thermostat, but don't lose the heat. By putting plastic on the windows and door snakes under the doors and around the windows, you can keep that heat in your home and not outside. This will in turn keep your home warm and keep your heating bill lower while keeping your home warm.
2. Keep your car in good condition. While keeping your car well maintained, you will be lowing your gas bill and repair bills. Cars can take quite a bit of damage during the winter, from the cold and from the salt and ice. By keeping your car in good condition you can limit the amount of damage that the car takes throughout the winter. In addition, by replacing the air filter and keeping the fuses in good condition, you can even limit the amount you spend on gas.
3. Invest in a good winter coat, not just the one with the best label. Most labels are not designed to actually handle winter weather. A good coat can make the difference between getting sick and being healthy throughout the winter. A good coat will also maintain its value, where a fashionable coat will eventually need replaced to keep in fashion. One good coat may be more expensive initially, but the value is maintained and therefore cost saving in the end.
4. Get a good pair of flat boots. By wearing more comfortable and flat boots with good traction, you can prevent falls and more expensive medical bills. When wearing high heeled boots, you are inviting an accident and inviting a fall. When you are wearing flats that are designed for true winter, then you can prevent falls and limit the expense of emergency room visits.
5. Slow down when driving. Winter is a prime time for accidents due to the ice and snow. By slowing down, you can keep the car under control and lower your insurance bills by being a safer driver. This will also keep the value in your car and help to keep the car in better condition. Slowing down can also help save on gas, which is still fairly expensive.
6. Take advantage of the end of the season sales. After the New Year, most stores begin to switch to spring and summer clothing and items. By taking advantage of these changes, you can pick up amazing outfits and pieces at amazing prices. This is also the time of year that most stores have the returns done and back on the racks at a discounted price.
